Yerevan Expects EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan in September
Thursday, September 4, 2025
Armenia expects to receive the final text of the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Action Plan from the European side by the end of September, Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan told reporters.
She noted that Armenia and the EU had been working together for a long time and had already announced the launch of dialogue. “Moreover, this was exceptional in the European region, because especially in recent years the EU has hardly started a dialogue,” Sargsyan said, stressing that Armenia has been considered an exception in this regard.
According to her, several EU missions have already visited Armenia. “We are waiting for the transfer of the final text of the action plan to the Armenian side in the fall. According to preliminary logic, we will receive the action plan by the end of September,” the minister stated.
As Armenia’s chief negotiator in the visa liberalization process, Sargsyan said she is working with EU partners to ensure that Armenia receives the text as soon as possible, which means the next steps should be taken by Armenia.
The minister also announced that a new biometric system is expected to become operational in the second half of 2026. "Work is currently underway to finalize the design of both passports and ID cards," she added.
