Yerevan City to Introduce More Environmental Protection Requirements in Urban Development
Monday, September 15, 2025
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced Monday that the city has developed a four-year program that includes additional requirements in mining and construction aimed at environmental protection.
Developers will face new green requirements, he said.
“In the future, buildings and complexes will be required not only to include so-called green spaces, but also to plant specific types of trees, based on the square meters of development,” the mayor said.
He added that forest planting near the Nubarashen highway will begin by the end of the year on 8.5 hectares of land.
In recent years, according to Avinyan, over 50 hectares of green space have been created in the city, equipped with proper irrigation systems — including the urban forests in Davtashen and Nor Nork. The parks in Nor Marash are currently under restoration.
A new 35-hectare urban forest is also planned on Lvovyan Street, he added.
