LA County coronavirus cases rise to 79,609 with 3,063 deaths
Friday, June 19, 2020LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles County Friday reported 1,414 new coronavirus cases and 38 additional deaths, bringing the totals to 79,609 cases and 3,063 deaths.
Of the 38 newly reported deaths, 31 were individuals over the age of 65, 26 of which had underlying health conditions. Seven individuals were between the ages of 41 and 65, 6 of which had underlying health conditions.
In addition, Los Angeles County Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer reported 18 deaths were among people who resided at a skilled nursing facility.
As of Friday, 1,446 were hospitalized due to COVID-19.
Ferrer also reported that the number of daily deaths had decreased slightly and that the daily number of hospitalizations was also declining.
The county’s health director noted that COVID-19 continues to disproportionately impact communities of color.
Los Angeles County reported the mortality rate due to COVID-19 per 100,000 people as of Friday was:
Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander: 52
African American: 35
Latino/Hispanic: 35
Asian: 24
White: 19
Not only does COVID-19 have a higher impact among communities of color, but the latest numbers reflect those who live between 30% to 100% area poverty had a mortality rate of 60%.
