Armenian Naturalization Process to be Digitized
Thursday, October 2, 2025
Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced that starting January 1, 2026, the process for applying for or renouncing Armenian citizenship will be fully digitized.
All applications and appointment scheduling will be done exclusively through a new online citizenship platform.
To prevent an overload in the system, the Ministry’s Migration and Citizenship Service will launch a pilot version of the new platform on October 6, 2025.
As part of the process, applicants will be required to visit the Migration and Citizenship office once for in-person identity verification and to submit original documents.
Starting October 6, users will be able to:
Register on the new platform online
Create, edit, and submit a preliminary application to obtain or renounce Armenian citizenship
Schedule an in-person visit to the Migration and Citizenship Service — for a date no earlier than January 22, 2026
Armenian citizens must register on the new platform through the "YesEm" national ID system, which requires an ID card and mID digital signature.
Foreign nationals, refugees, and stateless individuals can register either through enhanced identity verification or by confirming their email address and uploading a copy of their travel document.
Once a preliminary application is submitted, applicants must pay the required state fee at least 10 days before their scheduled appointment. Failure to pay on time will result in the appointment being automatically canceled.
At the appointment, applicants will need to bring the original documents listed in their application, and depending on the type of request, may need to take tests on Armenian language proficiency and the Constitution of Armenia.
The Ministry encourages everyone to use the online scheduling system to ensure convenient and efficient service.
