The flow of American Armenians to Armenia rises as April 24 approaches

And still, it has not been recognized by the world or by Turkey. Every year on April 24 Armenians around the world commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide. The 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide will be commemorated on April 24, 2015.
Armenians in every corner of the world are taking an active part in events dedicated to raising the awareness of the tragic events that happened to the Armenian nation in 1915.
Many American Armenians are traveling to Armenia this year to be a part of this important historical event. According to one of the travel agencies located in Glendale, the flow of people to Armenia incredibly rises in April of every year, and this year the number has reached its peak. Luckily, the ticket prices are not as well reaching their peak, but more or less stay on the same pricing level as usual.
Of course, not everyone can afford a trip to Armenia, and the people who remain in the United States, are none the less active here.
Having the biggest Armenian community in the United States, California is one of the most active states during this month. Some major events are happening in Glendale, the second home to Armenians. The City of Glendale will honor the Armenian Genocide Centennial with a commemorative ceremony at the Alex Theatre.
The Glendale City Council Tuesday presented a proclamation designating the Month of April 2015 as “Armenian Genocide Commemoration Month,” Masis Post reports. Mayor Zareh Sinanyan presented the proclamation during the regular session of the City Council to representatives of the Armenian-Genocide Centennial Committee of Western United States. The Glendale City Council also unanimously passed a Resolution designating April 2015 as the “Month of Commemoration of Centennial Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide”; and Taking Actions Necessary to Ensure the City and its Institutions Including Schools, Libraries and Publicly Owned Museums Properly Commemorate, Inform and Provide Education About the Genocide.
Armenian politicians try to contribute to this cause in their field, writers do their best to raise awareness with their pen; everyone is doing their best to be of use at this important time for the Armenian nation.
Armenian American writer Harut Sassounian claims that "the Turkish government and its agents are closely monitoring all announced Armenian plans, so Ankara could prepare its counter-moves to the anticipated Armenian "Tsunami"." In his words, Turkey "would be helping to publicize the Armenian Cause" by attempting to counter the upcoming genocide centennial activities.
The Grammy-award winning band System of a Down will also be traveling to Armenia and will hold a concert on that big day.
“It is a big honor for us to play in Armenia in the 100th anniversary year of the genocide,” said Serj Tankian, lead singer of the band. “Genocide is a disease that keeps on occurring today. For us as Armenian Americans, and as band members who have had family members perish in this tragedy, it is important to bring attention to this cause,” he continued.
