Armenia to eliminate deficiencies to lift ban on Armenian airlines' flights to Europe
Thursday, September 19, 2024Armenia has eliminated 40 of the 41 deficiencies identified by the European Aviation Safety Agency that led to the inclusion of Armenian aviation on the EU "blacklist."
Armenia is currently addressing the final deficiency and plans to invite European partners for another audit, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Gnel Sanosyan announced during the Global Armenian Summit.
The Minister noted that for many years, the Civil Aviation Committee, as a government body, operated with a limited staff and low salaries, resulting in many employees leaving for private airlines or even relocating to other countries.
According to Sanosyan, while the European Aviation Safety Agency identified more than 40 deficiencies, they were primarily related to shortage of the staff. "However, 40 of those 41 deficiencies have been resolved," the minister stated.
"We hope to complete all necessary corrections, allowing Armenian airlines to resume flights to Europe," Sanosyan added.
Armenian aviation has been on the European Union's "blacklist" since June 2020, with all Armenian air carriers banned from entering EU airspace.
