Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia will continue to cooperate with the IAEA and partner countries to find an optimal solution for replacing the operating power unit of the nuclear power plant.
At the “World Atomic Week” forum in Russia, Pashinyan noted that the extension of the service life of the current power unit from 2026 to 2036 will create a solid foundation for a smooth transition to the planned new unit.
“Armenia intends to continue developing close cooperation with the IAEA and partner countries to find an optimal solution for replacing the operating power unit, taking into account economic efficiency, safety, as well as the specific features of the country's energy system. The new energy facilities to be put into operation will become an important factor in regional development,” the Prime Minister said.
He thanked all specialists involved for their work and also highlighted the non-energy applications of nuclear technologies, including medicine, agriculture, science and education.
“We gratefully acknowledge the support, expert assistance, knowledge, and recommendations provided by the IAEA and partner countries, which play a vital role in the development of these areas in our country. We hope that mutually beneficial cooperation with our international partners in the field of peaceful uses of the atom will continue to develop and strengthen,” Pashinyan added.
