Armenia Elected to UNESCO World Heritage Committee

Armenia has been elected a member of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the first time.
The vote took place on November 24 during the 25th session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In the round of elections for vacant seats, Armenia achieved the best result, receiving 105 out of 161 possible votes, which "reflects the high level of confidence of the international community in Armenia’s efforts in the field of cultural heritage preservation''.
According to the statement, by assuming membership in the World Heritage Committee, Armenia reaffirms its commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at the protection, preservation and restoration of cultural and natural heritage, as well as promoting the fundamental principles of the World Heritage Convention.
